How Indirect Fired Systems Work
Clean Heat for Large Spaces
Indirect fired gas heat systems work by combining a blower section with a heat exchanger section. The blower section distributes outside or mixed air over the surface of the heat exchanger where the air is heated without direct contact with the gas flame or products of combustion. Although this process eliminates concerns about combustion products entering the space it does result in a loss of thermal efficiency. Typical indirect fired heating systems have efficiencies that range from 80 to 90 percent. However, because there are no combustion products in the air these systems are suitable for application in occupied spaces.
