Indirect and Indirect/Direct Evaporative Cooling Systems
Evaporative cooling is the most energy efficient and cost effective form of cooling that exists...and an indirect/direct system offers the closest performance to a DX system...but equipment cost is lower than a refrigeration system, installation is simple and inexpensive, and operating costs are a fraction of refrigeration systems. Evaporative cooling units are also environmentally friendly as they cool efficiently without the use of compressors or HFC refrigerants.
An evaporative cooling ventilation system provides fresh air to the building; forcing the hot, stale air out. These units provide maximum comfort when you need it the most. The hotter and drier the air, the greater the cooling effect.
The Aztec Indirect system uses evaporative media in an integral cooling tower to cool water down to temperatures approaching the wet bulb temperature. This water is then pumped through a built-in water coil to lower the entering air temperature without adding any moisture to the airstream. The Indirect/Direct version also has a direct evaporative module downstream of the indirect section. This section will lower the dry bulb temperature even more while adding moisture to the airstream.
The Aztec ASC series offers air deliveries from 1,500 CFM to 37,500 CFM. Optional indirect fired heating sections can be added with up to 1,400 MBH Input.

DDC CONTROLS ARE STANDARD
Patented Precision
The Temprite ASC indirect/direct evaporative cooling system is capable of more precise temperature control and real time on-board diagnostics thanks to the patented TracRite DDC control system (Patent #7,059,536). Interfacing with local networks is made easier since the TracRite system supports BACnet, LON, N2, and Modbus.
FACTORY MOUNTED AND WIRED VFD OPTIONAL
Match Fan Speed to Load
The already lower operating costs of the ASC unit can be further enhanced with the optional VFD for the supply fans. Building thermal loads can vary widely, as does the ambient air temperature. The Aztec evaporative cooling system utilizes the delta between the dry bulb temperature and the wet bulb temperature to produce the cooling effect.. Adding the VFD option to the ASC, and integrating it with the intelligence built in to the patented TracRite DDC system (Patent #7,059,536), allows the ASC to respond to the shifting demands of the building and the variable difference between the wet and dry bulb temperatures throughout the day and night..
DIRECT DRIVE PLENUM FANS
Industry Leading Air Handling
The Aztec ASC evaporative cooling system is available with direct drive plenum fans. Fan options include a single fan or a fan array...depending upon the unit size and configuration. Fan motors are AC type and can be either fixed speed or variable speed with the optional VFD.
WELDED FLOORS AND INSULATED WALLS FOR STRUCTURAL AND THERMAL INTEGRITY
ASC units are built to last
All Aztec ASC Temprite units are manufactured in our facility in Dallas. Units are designed to be lifted into position is necessary and the welded floor assembly serves to prevent water from entering the space below even after shipping, rigging, and lifting. The walls of the ASC unit are also insulated to achieve the best possible temperature delivery from the evaporative cooling sections. Optional double wall construction is available.
INTEGRAL COOLING TOWER FOR INDIRECT EVAPORATIVE COOLING
Plug and Play
ASC indirect/direct evaporative cooling units are a "plug and play" concept. The cooling tower that produces the cooled water for the indirect section is not an "add on". The unit is built with the cooling tower mounted on the same frame and piped to the cooling coil inside the unit. The tower is manufactured of stainless steel and includes a sump with redundant pumps when specified. The cooling tower section is separated from the main body by a stainless bulkhead. In cases where the optimum temperature control is required, the cooling tower fan can also be equipped with a VFD.
EVAPORATIVE MEDIA CAN BE CELLULOSE OR FIBERGLASS.
Cost or fire/smoke rated options
The direct evaporative cooling section of the ASC uses conventional cellulose media with edge protection as standard but fire/smoke rated media is also available as an option. (The integral cooling tower for the indirect cooling section uses the same type of media.) The media is typically 8 or 12 inches deep per the ambient design conditions and target performance. In some cases the media will be a combination of thicknesses in order to allow better temperature control.
A UNIQUE SOLUTION FOR INDIRECT EVAPORATIVE COOLING
Copper tubes and aluminum fins
Unlike many other indirect evaporative cooling systems, the ASC uses a copper tube/aluminum fin coil for the indirect heat transfer element. The ASC indirect system functions much like a "water side economizer" with the integral cooling tower providing the cold water for the cooling coil. Temprite Aztec units have been manufactured for over 40 years and in the early days many different types of indirect systems were tested. The solution coming from that research is that a conventional cooling coil provides superior heat transfer compared to non-metal heat transfer elements.
ASC SYSTEMS CAN ALSO INCLUDE HEAT
Gas, steam, hot water, or electric
The Aztec ASC system is intended to satisfy the air tempering requirements of the building year around. That means that in many climates there will be a need for heat from the unit. The ASC can accommodate natural gas, steam, hot water, or electric heat to accomplish that goal. The standard configuration uses the proven 4-pass natural gas heating system that Temprite has manufactured in Dallas for decades.
